Description of problem

I'm a former PC tech, but have been disabled for a few years. I have the above laptop. I had to replace the CPU fan due to noise. I used whatever heat sink compound I happened to have on hand. The laptop worked at the time, but a few months later my son reported it was shutting down due to overheating. I cleaned off the old heat sink compound.
