What security software should I have on a business computer?

My dad, who's 72, runs a shop and was (until now) almost completely against technology. Due to some new law issues, we are required to have a computer which will be used by a few employees. Since he doesn't understand anything about that, I'm handling most of it, but as many other employees will be using it, I'm afraid someone might mess things up. What are some vital programs and/or configurations I should have to make sure they don't do anything stupid? Also what can I do to restrict their access to social networks like Facebook or Twitter? It has Windows 7 and medium/low specs. Edit: Forgot to mention we are a really small business (5 employees) and therefore can not afford high priced software, I'm looking for something preferably free or at least cheap. Wi-Fi help

I have a wifi card in my pc, one day my internet speed dropped, then completely dropped. After that I can't reconnect to my router even tho I can see it in my connection options. Everyone else in my house has no problems with the same wifi. I am using the correct password, I reinstalled my driver's, and switch ports for the wifi card on my mobo. The encyption type is the same too. Thanks Submitted February 28, 2018 at 01:18PM by zombiepiemaster http://ift.tt/2GNZTS8

Looking for a unstable Wi-Fi solution

Hello, I had to move to another apartment. I'm a student living far from home. Since the owner of this apartment is also the owner of the apartment above, I have to share the wifi with more 5 people. I spoke with the owner and he said that making hole between the apartments is completely out of question. My bedroom is separated from the room (beneath the modem) with a wall. The thing is: - I can have "2 sticks" out of 4 of connection - when I try to play I can get sometimes stable connection, but after some seconds, instability comes after me. Taking in consideration I can't use my lan cable :'(, is there another solution for me? That I didn't think of? (I just arrived, I wasnt planning to move soo soon after getting here....) As far as I hear, a second modded (connected by wifi) creates eco, wich is good to extend wifi, but not to play with. Submitted February 28, 2018 at 04:30PM by DarkMaster06 http://ift.tt/2CqhDVd

Blade & Soul - Balrok Raiment (Gon Outfit) Mod

Gambar
As seen in the last post on Yun Balrok Raiment , where I put up the outfit for all three races for comparison, Gon got the most love (as usual  😅 ). That's not just my opinion but many other players feel the same way. For me, the Yun's and Jin's versions look nice too, except for that exaggerated 'belt' and skirt which combine to make the character's waist line appear triple in size when viewed from the back. And unfortunately, that's where players are looking at, almost 100% of the time, when they are playing the game.  😅 After I posted the Yun Balrok Raiment music video on YouTube, a viewer left a comment to make a mod for the Gon Balrok Raiment. Since I had done a Jin Savannah mod just prior to the Yun Balrok Raiment, I guess a Gon mod is proper for this post. As seen in the previous post, the Gon's version sports a tight pants with two huge metal armor pieces wrapped around their outer thighs. The front torso is covered by just a shro...

Please, help me figure out the cause of all this BSoDs

Hey everyone thanks for stoping by! Here's my problem... About 3 months ago, I've started having random BSoDs while playing games, browing internet, talking on Discord, etc, it always seems to happen when I try to run something that requires the use of my GPU, more than one time I have seen my screen go black for a few seconds, and then get the "AMD display driver has stopped working, but has been recovered". All of this gets me to believe that my GPU is fauty, I've tried updating Windows, updating my all of my drivers, formating my harddrive, running Memtest to see if Ram was at fault, cleaning my hardware, etc... But nothing works, some days I can go the entire day without a singles bsod, playing some really GPU heavy games, but other days (Like today) I can't even open Youtube without getting a BSoD. I've been saving all of my Minidumps to see if anyone can help me figure this thing out, I'm really thinking on buying a new GPU, but they are really ...

My grandpa is dying, and we can't access his computer

I don't know if this is the right sub to post this (please direct to me a better sub if you know of one) but my grandpa is dying, and we can't access his computer, which has important files like his will among other things, but that much is obvious from the title. The reason we can't access his computer is that we don't know what his password is, and while he is awake and comprehensive enough to respond to questions, he can't move more than nodding or shaking his head, and he can't talk. So our initial idea was to go individual letter by letter until he nodded yes and we would eventually get the password. However, he is too impatient and after twenty minutes, we still had barely gotten anywhere. So is there a way for us to easily get him to be able to tell us what his computer password is? I thought about if there was an app on the ios app store that could use the camera to track his eye movements and allow him to type with his eyes, simlilar to how stephen haw...

I have a NAS drive with ~1000 videos on it, is there anyway I can make a front end that filters the videos, then allows the filtered videos to be downloaded in to a zip?

Hi, Apologies if this is the wrong subreddit. This is a work thing that I have been dumped with as I know how to use Excel beyond the sum command which has made me appear to the higher-ups as an IT wizard. The company has a NAS drive, with ~1000 videos on, they are named like the following: 'DDMMYYYY_Var1_Var2_Var3_Var4.mp4' The Var's are things like events, locations etc. What I have been tasked to do is make a front end that filters the files by their Var's, for example videos that took place in London, and then zip and download those files. The NAS is a QNAP NAS, and has access to the QNAP store which includes such things as MYSql. I'm pretty sure I need to make a database with tags that links to a file, but I have no idea about how to go about making a front end that can filter and download files. Any suggestions are appreciated. Submitted February 28, 2018 at 04:31PM by Haynes_ http://ift.tt/2oCuWZx

Okay, I downloaded the game I wanted to the hard drive yet the files that are from documents are on the C: drive instead of the D: drive. What am I doing wrong here?

I'm totally new with this so forgive my ignorance. I really need help in understanding what I'm doing. Also when I try to download a program to the my PC it still installs on the C: drive not D: drive is it because the files that the program made require to be on the main drive with is the C: drive? PC boots on second try

Hi guys and gals. So recently (can't exactly date it but it was after a windows update i think) my PC started booting up weirdly. When i press the power button the fans spin up, the screen show a little white line (like in a command prompt) and after 2-3 seconds just shuts down. After that it just boots normally by itself, i get the windows logo and all. I've tried turning the fast boot off and it hasn't helped, also tried the debugging thing in Windows and it worked fine after that process but happened again on next boot. No other processes have been affected, everything works perfectly. Could it be a driver issue or a hardware issue? My specs are: GPU: GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 RAM: HyperX Fury 8GB DDR3 1866Mhz CPU: I5-4690 MoBo: Gigabyte Z97P-D3 Thank you very much in advance! MP4 files corrupt somehow? Screen recording looks fine when viewing in VLC but shrinks to 1/4 of the player with the other 3/4 being green (screenshot included) when viewed in QuickTime or edited in iMovie, also making Premiere crash

Brief backstory: I use Nvidia GeForce Experience to record video (shadowplay?) where I can press a hotkey and it will save the previous 3 minutes of gameplay to an mp4 file on my computer. I like to use this for highlights if something crazy happens in a game. I had a few clips while playing Battlefield 1 tonight that I was going to cut together in Premiere (which I am a novice at using) to make a little highlight reel to send to a friend. In the preview window when it was paused it had a bunch of weird stuff going on with it being distorted with green overlays or something. When the video was playing it was perfectly fine. Well, Premiere crashed twice and I gave up and decided I'd put the video files on my external and put them on my laptop to cut together in iMovie which I am much more experienced with. After seeing the thumbnail with a bunch of green I was confused and opened the files in QuickTime where I was met with this . I figured maybe it was QuickTime being weird so I p...

Windows 10 peripheral device failure

Today when I turned on my computer it immediately started to install the driver software for my mouse and keyboard, which I thought was odd, because they should already be installed... It will claim to have successfully installed the keyboard driver, even though it's totally unresponsive, and the mouse is an even stranger case, where it continuously makes the "usb connected" and then immediately "usb disconnected" noises over and over again until I unplug the mouse, meanwhile it's flashing away and the "installing driver software notification keeps popping up. When I view the device manager, the mouse will appear on the list for a second and then disappear the same way, in a constant cycle. I've tried finding the driver software online to download it manually with no luck. I also uninstalled and reinstalled the usb drivers hoping that would help, no luck there either. An attempt to try a different keyboard and a different mouse yielded the same r...

News Today: The Tech Moguls Driving Mass Layoffs in the Economy Want Universal Basic Income as a Cure—Should Progressives Be Cheering?

Gambar
UBI is having a moment in the upper echelons of thought leadership. Driverless cars !  IBM Watson !  News-writing robots ! Amazon Go ! The future is here, friends, and it apparently excludes humans. People are preparing for the next mass extinction—an evaporation, if you will—not of humans, polar bears or other creatures, but of jobs. This prospect has been sending shivers through humanity, from New York City to  Kenya . How will people earn enough money to support themselves and their families when all the jobs are taken by robots? And how to keep from pointing the proverbial finger at the overlords of Silicon Valley? Well, the answer certainly doesn’t seem to be “build the wall”—after all, that will  probably be done by robots , too. No, the idea is something more obvious and perhaps even more controversial: universal basic income (UBI). Simply, UBI is a system where the government gives everyone a set amount of money every month, regardless of posit...

News Today: 'This Is How Your Mind Learns to Accept Atrocities': Psychologist on Trump's Anti-Muslim Agenda

Gambar
Dr. Farha Abbasi breaks down the danger this presidency poses to mental health. Islamophobia was an issue in the U.S. long before Donald Trump took office, but this administration has worked hard to help spread the disease. Since Trump’s electoral win, 18 state legislatures have introduced 23 totally unnecessary anti-sharia law bills . Anti-Muslim violence has been on a steady rise . An unambiguous ban on Muslims from six countries—which candidate Trump made clear was a “Muslim ban "—is actually in effect. And among the other racist materials he's fond of, Trump regularly retweets anti-Muslim propaganda put out by white supremacists the world over . This all adds up to an attack on Muslims in America, and people's mental health often ends up in the line of fire. Michigan State University psychiatrist Farha Abbasi has been examining the psychic toll of America’s Islamophobia for nearly 20 years. As the director of the Muslim Mental Health Conference and managing ...

News Today: The New York Times Newsroom Is Openly Revolting Against Its Editorial Page Editor

Gambar
A series of leaks exposes a deep dissatisfaction with James Bennet's stewardship. Since Donald Trump was elected president, the New York Times' editorial page has waged a frontal assault on its readers' intelligence. Just this month, it has published pieces defending  Woody Allen  and  Aziz Ansari  against allegations of sexual abuse, and another  scolding liberals  for not being sufficiently respectful of gun owners in the wake of the latest mass shooting. In between, the paper  hired and fired  its leading commentator on technology after learning she counts a prominent neo-Nazi among her close friends. Subscribers are taking notice, and they're not alone.  According to a Vanity Fair report , Times reporters have grown increasingly frustrated with the paper's op-ed section and fear it may be undermining their work. As one anonymous senior staffer put it, “Until yesterday, people felt like [Opinion] was a shakeup. Now people are wo...
