News Today: George Papadopoulous Drunken Bragging in London Wine Bar Started Trump Collusion Investigation
According to the New York Times, the investigation into collusion between Russian operatives and members of President Donald Trump’s campaign staff had its beginning in a London wine bar where Trump adviser George Papadopoulos bragged about having “dirt” on former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
The report notes that the foreign policy adviser made the boast to Australia’s top diplomat in Britain in May of 2016.
According to the report, “Exactly how much Mr. Papadopoulos said that night at the Kensington Wine Rooms with the Australian, Alexander Downer, is unclear. But two months later, when leaked Democratic emails began appearing online, Australian officials passed the information about Mr. Papadopoulos to their American counterparts, according to four current and former American and foreign officials with direct knowledge of the Australians’ role.”
Since Papadopoulos made a plea bargain with special counsel Robert Mueller, the White House has attempted to paint him as a “coffee boy” who was barely involved in Trump’s campaign.
